 | | | | | Land-Based Casino Giant Joins The Online Casino World14 Dec 2006 It has been a pretty rough year for most online casinos and for the online casino industry as a whole. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) wasn't able to abolish online gambling at all, but some of the consequences were felt in the gambling community. Judging from the recent Las Vegas Sands Casino's move, next year may turn out to be much better for the online casino industry. This land-based casino, considered one of the biggest in the world and number one in market value, has announced that it will launch a UK online casino during the second quarter of 2007.
Although the online casino will compete with other casinos, possibly affecting their incomes, the move should also be viewed a vote of confidence to the industry. The new site will be available to international gamblers, complying with British laws, but won't accept US players, due to the UIGEA. Most of the popular online casino will be present in the site, including baccarat, poker, blackjack and roulette.
It's still very early to tell if the initiative will succeed, but already now it is the most anticipated online casino site to hit the market in 2007. As a reminder, MGM Mirage, another casino giant, already attempted a similar project, but had to shut down the online casino site after only two years of operating. The main question, that still remains answered, is whether the Las Vegas Sands has learned any lesson from the failed venture of MGM Mirage. If they did, be prepared - a new big boy has reached town.
